One semester each year is spent studying basic grammar, standard usage, and mechanics. This includes material on the eight parts of speech and their usages, and becomes more comprehensive with each grade level. Weekly work includes vocabulary and spelling, themes, essays, and occasional memorization of poetry. Outside reading for book reports is also required each quarter. The other semester each class studies literature, which includes a compilation of American and World mythology and legends, short stories, plays, a short novel, and poetry. Discussions are held for the emphasis of spiritual values and growth.
