Attendance & Absence  Attendance & Absence

Regular attendance of classes and school functions is necessary for students to gain full benefit from our program.

Absences fall into two categories:

Excused

1. Illness or accident - Note from parents or doctor required.
2. Doctor or dentist appointment - Note from parents in advance when possible.
3. Family emergencies (funeral, illness, etc.) - Note from parents in advance when possible.
4. Family trips or events (special events, weddings, reunions, etc.) Note from parents in advance.
5. Other activities (college visits, job interviews, church events, etc.) - Note from parents in advance.
When at all possible a student should be excused in advance and will be expected to complete the required work for each class missed either before or after the absence at the discretion of the teacher.

Unexcused
Absences not properly excused will be considered unexcused. Students will receive a "0" in each class missed during an unexcused absence.

Non-Credit
Students absent more than one-sixth (1/6) of a school year in any given class, under any and all circumstances (except long-term illness with supervised instruction), will not receive credit for that course. Absences for a full year course shall not exceed thirty (30) absences per school year. Absences for a one-semester course shall not exceed fifteen (15) absences per semester. A complete, per-period absentee record for each student is maintained throughout the year. On weekends and vacations, boarding students will not be permitted to leave school early or return late except in cases of emergency. Boarding students may plan to go home on non-required weekends. However, at times this privilege may be forfeited because of poor work or for disciplinary reasons.
